Getting There - Aneel's Travelogue

Last day in Trujillo Trujillo, La Libertad, Peru, Monday, 11 April 2005 3:26pm

I visited Huaca de la Luna (and saw Huaca del Sol in the distance. It seems it's not visitable). I think it's the best of the sites around Trujillo. It's being actively excavated, but it's also set up so that people can walk around it and see the previous work easily. There's a lot of surface decoration and reliefs that retain their original color. One of the best preserved ruins I've seen of a similar age.

After lunch, I went to Museo Cassinelli, which is in the basement of a gas station. It's an impressive collection of ceramics from various pre-Columbian culures. I particularly like the Mochica animal pieces. The're stylized, but still totally recognizable, and they have a great sense of line and form.

I realized that there was no way I'd have time to overfly Nazca tomorrow, so I'm just going to spend the day in Lima. Depending on how refreshed I feel after my overnight bus (ha!), I may leave my luggage at the airport, or I may check into a hotel (and check out at 9pm to go to the airport).

Sabore Limon: like carbonated lemonade, except that there's no actual lemon in it as far as I can tell. Very refreshing on a hot day.

Are you going to get to see Nazca at all?
