Phew. We got up horribly early to catch a cab to the airport, then flew back to Madrid (where we had to do a really annoying re-check-in step because we hadn't been asked the TSA questions at our original check-in, meaning we were nearly the last aboard the plane), then to JFK, where we had to claim our baggage (we've checked a bag because we bought some liquor) take it through customs and then re-check it, then to Austin. Sadly, I narrowly missed seeing a bunch of my SF friends who'd been in Austin for SXSW. Sarah and Anderson were kind enough to pick us up at the airport and take us for some much-needed food after about 22 hours of travel.
Here's an overview map of the driving we (okay, Adrienne) did (1163mi over 6 driving days).
And here's Adrienne's journal, for another perspective on this trip.
