Getting There - Aneel's Travelogue

The chat in the post office this morning was all about how the snow plows are getting ready for their first deployment of the season. The weather forecast for the next few days is ugly. Cold and rainy, with snow in a lot of the nearby areas. Not the kind of weather I want to be riding in, so I decided to bypass a few scenic roads and head south on the Interstates.

I had lunch and caught up with Timojhen, a friend from San Francisco who moved to Northern Virginia when AOL Music left the bay area. He's an avid motorcyclist and does serious touring, so I got some tips from him about places to go.

He'd recommended a shop, Coleman Powersports, as the most likely place nearby to have better mirrors. When I called them, they told me that they didn't have any aftermarket convex mirrors, but that they had a box of lightly used OEM mirrors. I'd stopped by there first thing and found a mirror that matches my original surprisingly well. Coleman Powersports was awesome about it, even giving me some spacers to help mount the mirror on my bike. So now I'm back to a wide field of view.

After lunch, I rode south. It was almost 5 before I started seeing a little snow falling. Half an hour later it started raining in earnest. I stopped for gas and a cup of hot chocolate in Natural Bridge VA and the woman at the gas station warned me that there'd been reports of sleet to the south.

Luckily, I only hit rain. It didn't even leak through my suit, though my boots were pretty soaked.

I was greeted by a warm fire and dinner at Lifto and Sarah's house in Blacksburg, VA.
