Molly and I did some motorcycle touring and light hiking around the Hamilton area today. Hamilton has been taking advantage of its positioning near the Niagara Escarpment to try to distance itself from its industrial past and re-brand itself as a "City of Waterfalls".
The Escarpment is essentially a tall cliff hundreds of miles long where two plains at different altitudes meet, so wherever a river crosses it, there will be a waterfall. The most famous of these falls are Niagara Falls, but there are a lot of others near Hamilton.
We rode through the town of Dundas (stopping for lunch at a cool little cafe named Detour), to visit Webster's Falls, Tew's Falls, and Dundas Peak. After a few miles of hiking around, we met up with Molly's friend Riziq and rode up to Devil's Punch Bowl, another waterfall on a different part of the Escarpment. There were great views of the area from Dundas Peak and we could see all the way to Toronto from Devil's Punch Bowl.
