Preparations San Francisco, CA, USA, Tuesday, 19 April 2011 9:28pm

I've been spending a lot of time lately preparing for my next trip. I'm planning a six week trip to Indonesia and Australia, culminating in a liveaboard Scuba diving trip to the Komodo islands.

Mona gave me a quick manual-shifting lesson today, because I'm hoping to rent a campervan in Australia, and the cute little ones are all manuals. It went pretty well. Years of motorcycling have gotten me well used to the idea of shifting, so it's just a matter of rewiring my ideas about how to control the clutch. I'm still a little iffy on uphill starts with cars both in front of and behind me, but the rest of it seems manageable. We'll see how I adapt to driving on the wrong side of the road and shifting with my left hand...

I got my visa for Indonesia back last week, and applied for an Australian Electronic Travel Authority. Now it's just a matter of figuring out where in Indonesia and Australia I want to go, packing, putting all of my other stuff in storage, and going!

You may be saying "Wait... putting all of your other stuff in storage?" Yes. I'll be moving out of my apartment for this trip, and won't have a home address when I return to the states. Want any of my books? I'm hoping to couchsurf until I figure out what's next.
