Konya Konya, Konya, Turkey, Tuesday, 12 January 2010 9:00pm

I missed the early bus (8am) to Konya, opting to have breakfast instead. However, it seems that the 9:30 bus that I thought I could catch wasn't running, so I caught a 10:30 one instead. That meant I got to Konya rather later than I expected. Luckily, I didn't find a whole lot in Konya that I wanted to do.

I was looking forward to the Mevlana Museum, which is the shrine to Rumi, and once the lodge of the whirling dervishes. There are some very beautiful decorative elements in the museum, and some fascinating old books (like the original manuscripts of Rumi's poetry, over 700 years old), but the collection is a lot smaller than I'd expected.

I also visited the museum of stone and wood carving, which also had some good pieces, but was very small in comparison to the museums in Istanbul.
