We took stock of our progress today. At the rate we've been going, we'd arrive in Loreto several days early, but not quite early enough to make it worthwhile to continue further south. We could have a long riding day to La Paz, spend the evening there, and jump back on the bikes to come back the next morning, but we couldn't spend a day there and really see the place.
So we switched gear, and did a whole lot of nothing today. Swam in the river. Walked the 2km to the center of town. Had a burrito (burritos here are actually "ito". We should call the ones back home burros) and some ice cream from stalls on the plaza. Checked out the old lava brick mission church. Looked around at the little museum devoted to the local petroglyphs. Failed to visit the store with all of the hats before they closed (siesta? just short hours?). Swam some more. Read by the side of the river.
Our next few days should be pretty relaxed as well. We estimate that we could cover the distance to Loreto in one day, but we're currently planning to do it over three.
I've uploaded low-res versions of the pictures from the past few days and attached a few thumbnails and maps to previous journal entries, for those of you following along.
