Puerto Montt is the first place we've been that feels like a city. Lots of people going about their business, none of which is related to tourism.
In fact, we've been having a hard time finding the Sernatur (National Tourist Service) office. Everyone claims it's somewhere different, and each time we go to where we've been told, it turns out it's not there. Jenny's guidebook says that there are many tourist "information" places, but that only Sernatur is useful. We definitely spent some time talking to a less-than-useful municipal tourism agency.
They say that all of the chicken eaten in Chile comes from this region. The fried chicken is definitely good.
